Whether you prefer plane, boat, or car, Carolina Beach is an easily accessed Coastal Carolina beach destination. Most travelers prefer to drive to Carolina Beach, as having a car makes experiencing the area much more convenient. Car rental providers are also located at the Wilmington International Airport, which is located 19 miles from Carolina Beach, and, if flying in, a rental car is definitely recommended.
Carolina Beach is conveniently located just 15 miles from historic, downtown Wilmington and enjoys a central location on the Eastern Seaboard. Carolina Beach is nearly equidistant between New York and Florida and attracts Southeast and Northeast visitors alike. The main thoroughfare for driving to Carolina Beach from east to west is I-40, which connects with highways 17, 74, 76, 117, and 421.
Once you’re closing in on Carolina Beach, you’ll take US 117 S and continue on S College Road until you arrive at US 421 S/Carolina Beach Road.
Situated just 19 miles from Carolina Beach, Wilmington International Airport (ILM) makes getting to Carolina Beach a breeze, especially if you’re not up for driving. Many folks find that they’d prefer to forgo the summer traffic along the Eastern Seaboard. Both rental cars and taxis are available at ILM. Getting from the airport to your vacation rental is also easy. Hop on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway to N Kerr Ave and then take a ride to S College Road. Soon you’ll meet up with US 421 S, aka Carolina Beach Road.

If your boat is too large or inventory is not available, the Carolina Beach Mooring Field is a great option. You can rest assured your craft will be safe and secure. Located south of Snow’s Cut just after day marker #5 on the approach channel to Carolina Beach’s Myrtle Grove Sound, the Mooring Field provides nine locations available year-round. For Mooring Field customers, a dingy dock is located at 901 Canal Drive. In addition, the Carolina Beach Marina features three rental boat slips located on the west of the marina.
